Colin

Missing since November 2024

Rue Jehannet, St Martin

Colin had been returning home less and less throughout 2024, finally not returning home at all. There have been sightings in Rue Jehannet but it has not been established who has taken him or feeding him.

MISSING FOR TEN MONTHS!

Colin came to the attention of Guernsey’s Lost & Found Pets formerly Guernsey Animal Aid in June 2025.  He had been missing from his home in Rue Jehannet for months but there had been sporadic sightings of Colin since his disappearance.

Janie visited the area and the owner highlighted the areas Colin was being seen.   Unfortunately, Colin has a twin that lives close by so following Colin was proving difficult.  The relief of the catching Colin in July was also short lived when it was established that Janie had, in fact, caught his twin!

At that point “Unauthorised Feeder Alert” leaflets were delivered to the suspected area which, it is assumed, resulted in the feeder stopping or slowing the unauthorised feeding of Colin.  A cat in this position will usually return home, or continue to sit outside of the feeders house, in effect, informing us of who the feeder is.

We are pleased to report that it was the owner that recovered Colin yesterday!  On sighting, and knowing he should now be hungry, the owner was able to lure him home with food.  He has been vet checked and is doing well.

This is another case that highlights the hurt and upset caused by people who think feeding and/or housing a cat that doesn’t belong to them is acceptable, it is not, it stops them from returning home.

Please note that if you are ever concerned about a cats welfare, it is acceptable to feed a cat that you don’t own.  We actively encourage people to feed a potential stray cat to keep it in the area and contact an authorised body (Guernsey Lost & Found Pets or GSPCA) to get it scanned for a possible microchip and be reunited with its family.
